Mizoram Governor Pushes to Make State TB-Free by 2025

At the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan event in Aizawl, Governor Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh called for urgent action to make Mizoram India’s first TB-free state. He highlighted the need for collective efforts beyond healthcare—diagnostics, medicine access, and community involvement—and lauded Nikshay Mitras supporting TB patients.

Currently, only 7.8% of the state’s 1,501 TB patients receive nutritional support. The Governor pledged personal aid to 10 patients and urged civil society, faith groups, and volunteers to step up. The Health Minister noted that free testing, treatment, and ₹1,000 monthly assistance are active support components.

The event showcased Mizoram’s ambitious path to eliminating TB five years ahead of the global target, highlighting the importance of social and governmental collaboration.
