The ICMR has decided to distribute rapid diagnostic test kits for Hepatitis B, sickle-cell anemia, and syphilis to Sub-Centres, Primary Health Centres, and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. This will enable early detection and intervention in rural and tribal communities .
The decentralised testing strategy strengthens disease screening and referral networks, enabling more timely treatment and reducing disease progression. Officials anticipate improved case management and better maternal and child health outcomes through early intervention.
With improved availability of diagnostics at the primary care level, India is moving toward a more preventive model of healthcare, reducing morbidity and potentially costlier tertiary care dependence.
