World Breastfeeding Week Boosts Nutrition Awareness in Jharkhand

Breastfeeding Week (August 1–7) kicked off in Ranchi under national and international campaigns promoting exclusive breastfeeding for six months. Health department officials emphasised its importance for newborn immunity and long-term maternal benefits, including lowered breast cancer risk.

Antenatal counseling is being strengthened across health centers, highlighting harmful substitutes like honey, herbal teas, and packaged milk. Pediatricians urge societal support to create breastfeeding-friendly environments.

The campaign aligns with broader national efforts to reduce infant malnutrition and stunting, advocating for coordinated clinic-based support and community outreach to encourage breastfeeding best practices.
